Waste

• All bin bags are collected on the same day each week (black, green recycling and white composting bags). Black and white bags are collected weekly. The Green recycling is a fortnightly collection.

• Put rubbish out after 4pm the night before, or before 6am (!) on the collection day and don’t let waste build up.

• A wall makes a world of difference. Rubbish cannot be collected if left inside the boundary of your property i.e. in your garden. It must be placed on the pavement to ensure collection.

• The Green Bag Scheme is a fortnightly collection of dry recyclables such as plastic bottles, cans and paper. These are collected in an official Council green bag. The green bags can be obtained from the student unions, and Council buildings such as libraries and leisure centres.

• Household Waste Recycling Centres are located at Lamby Way in Rumney, Weddal Road in Heath or Bessemer Close in Grangetown. All three sites are open 7 days a week – 7am to 6.45pm. Access by car only.

• You could face a fine of £100 from the council if rubbish becomes an issue at your property. Rubbish should not be left in the front garden.

• Any wheeled bins must be brought back into your property by 9am the after collection.

• If you allow rubbish to accumulate it attracts rats/vermin to the property. Similarly, if food/spillages are left exposed this attracts mice, ants, cockroaches and pests.

• Bulky refuse items such as fridges/freezers, washing machines, beds, cookers can be moved free by calling Connect to Cardiff (C2C) on 029 2087 2087.

• Charities and your local charity shop willingly accept reusable household items and goods. Don’t throw away what can be reused for a good cause.

REMEMBER.....

A wall makes a world of difference. Rubbish cannot be collected if left inside the boundary of your property i.e. on your side of the property wall or in the garden. It must be placed on the pavement to ensure collection. Vermin of the four legged and winged kind love the bins; putting them out at the correct times, not leaving them in the garden or letting waste build up is a sure fire way to ensure rats and seagulls don't set up home in your home.
