Living
The student community plan and the student liaison officer in Cardiff identified that there is a lack of education and information for those students moving into their new homes and the impacts they have on the communities.
This is where Cardiff Living in association with www.cardiffdigs.co.uk hopes to bridge the gap. Cardiff Living is a pack containing useful information and practical tips about living in private rented accommodation http://www.cardiffdigs.co.uk/living.htm
The pack contains information for students such as:
Things to do as soon as you move in including community relations, Ground rules and tips for shared living, Rubbish and Bin Days, Maintenance, Home Safety, Living in the property, Useful contacts among other sections.
A poster ‘You’re in. Now what?’ has been produced to support Cardiff Living. It runs through the four main issues that students face and need educating over including: Neighbour relations, Rubbish and recycling responsibilities, Security advice and Health and Safety Guidance. We are asking students to take a note of the advice and display this in their homes.
In addition we are bringing the council into the 21 st century with two podcasts containing advice called ‘Ground rules and tips for shared living’ and ‘You’re in…so now what?’
The podcasts can be imported into iTunes and listened via any Mp3 player, opened via any audio/media player or listened to directly at www.cardiff.gov.uk/students
These packs have been distributed to student properties via letting agencies, the landlords newsletter, PACT meetings, via the universities accommodation services, linked via university and union websites and via www.cardiffdigs.co.uk
We hope that this will make a contribution towards a successful year by making students aware of issues relating to moving into the community and rented accommodation.
So make your family aware of these issues by introducing them to the website and the services available via www.cardiffdigs.co.uk and www.cardiff.gov.uk/students where the pack, podcasts and posters can be downloaded.
